  1. Because this is coming back again and again and again and always creates problems for new users, If you have a nVidia videocard and want to use X-Plane you need to turn off Threaded optimization in the nVidia control panel. This is mandatory! Keeping it on may/will hurt performance! This is the first thing you should do after a (re)install of your system or driver or X-Plane. If it was off in the first place and you was experiencing terrible performance, try turn it on & see if that changes anything for you. For some users it's backwards oddly. - Open the nVidia Control panel. - Select Manage 3D settings on the left. - Select the Program Settings tab on the right. - Select the X-Plane profile and turn Threaded optimization OFF.

  8. So finally while I am waiting for a video to render, I can start writing the list of freeware aircraft that I enjoy or can recommend! Lets start with some heavy commercial aircraft, and work our way down from there! Be aware the list will continually be updated! I am aware there are some notable aircraft missing from the list. I just havent had a chance to fly them or test them. So this list is of aircraft I have personally tested and flown in XPlane! Heavy Commercial Aircraft EADT x737 Version 5 This aircraft has been in development for quite a long time, moving from 2D cockpits finally into a 3D model. The 3D model is not the most optimized out there, and I have experienced lower frames in the aircraft on a i5/GTX970 system; however it is still more than playable! The flight model of this aircraft is very good, and is definitely worth brushing up on some hand flying skills and enjoying how it flies! The 737-800's systems are well replicated, but the conceit with the aircraft is its FMC. I can not recommend the UFMC purchase, but would rather direct you to the donationware X-FMC. Take 10 dollars and get yourself a 1 month NaviGraph pack to have the latest data. You really dont need to have the recurring subscription, but if you want go ahead! Then through a donation towards X-FMC. You will come out cheaper and have more function that the UFMC. Let L-410 This aircraft is a must have for everyone. Its a fairly new released aircraft (April 2016), has a good 3D cockpit and exterior. I havent experienced any frame rate issues at all. The flight model is just wonderful as well, its a quirky and fun aircraft to fly. It is challenging as well, being unpressurized flight planning to remain under 14,000 (or 10-12,000 depending where you are flying it in the world). The aircraft's performance can be summarized as leisurely; nothing happens fast in this plane. It can land shorter than it can take off, and plan for 500 ft/min at MTOW. Systems wise its challenging, there are some items that are not clearly marked in the cockpit so RTFM. The main instruments also pose a challenge, as half of the instruments are metric, the other ICAO. So you will be scratching your head when the auto pilot VSI numbers dont match up with the VSI instruments on the panel. The engines (Walter 601's) behave ok, with nothing that stands out as being wrong. Anyway; get this aircraft you will have fun and laugh while flying it. Light Commercial Aircraft Piaggio P.180 Avanti Wonderful fun little aircraft, somewhere between a turboprop and a jet. This is an upgrade to the standard Piaggio that comes with Xplane, with EFIS displays. I was working on the flight model for this aircraft, the one that currently comes with this aircraft is not my updated model. It still needs a little work, but this is a nice flying aircraft out of the box. You get a free aircraft with reasonable performance, EFIS display, and will work fine in PilotEdge as a /A aircraft. With X-FMC it can be flown as /G easily! Warbirds Khamsim B-17G Flying Fortress This is another must have for everyone. This almost is the standout aircraft in the Khamsim line up and its free.... The 3D interior and exterior are really wonderful, it really is fun to just pan around the exterior of the aircraft and enjoy it while flying. The flight model again is worth pointing out for being a pleasure to fly, it handles like a truck with only the standard rudder authority problems. Overall its a challenge to operate at high TOW's, it will ground loop if you are not careful. Really just a great fun aircraft to go fly through some of your favorite Ortho. Mitsubishi Zero A6M21 Repeating myself I guess.....but another must have aircraft. This was previously a payware aircraft, that the developer released to be freeware. Complete with DreamEngine sounds, it has one of the best sound sets out of all of these aircraft. It handles well, looks good, is free. Its a no brainier. HOWEVER everything is in Japanese, so RTFM. Boeing Stearman Model 75 Kaydet by Paolo Generally fun aircraft, if you want to practice flying with rudder peddles this is the aircraft for you! You can not be lazy and not fly without rudder inputs. It flys a lot like the Khamsim Chipmunk but is obviously free. There are no systems to talk about, the cockpit interior is trash. But this aircraft is not to be flown head down, lift your view gaze out through the wing struts and flying wires. Fly the aircraft by feel and wait for the smile to come. Airspeed and attitude indicators are for chumps. This plane gives you enough feedback. There is a ASG flight model for this aircraft, I need to ask Schmoo to pass it back over to me! Link will be here soon Latecoere 28-5 Want to know what its like to fly a French shitbox from the 1930's?!?!?! This is the plane for you! Want to have absolutely zero forward visibility? Blocked by what I can only assume is a French Horn. Want to feel like you are actually flying a boat? Like floral aircraft interiors? Get this plane. You will forever appreciate forward visibility. Aerobatic GA Aircraft Yakovlev Yak-55 Very fun little aerobatic aircraft, great if you want to learn some advanced aerobatics. Flight performance and flight model seem to be in the ball park, it does fly a little like its on rails. But pull too much G and you will find yourself on your back staring at the ground. It does however have possibly the worst sound out of any aircraft (Maybe beaten by the Khamsim P-51) . If you enjoy the sound of a sewing machine, this plane is for you! SBach 300 v10 This thing is a step up from the little Yak-55. With more horsepower the aircraft can pull more sustained G as well as being a little bit faster than the Yak-55. This aircraft again feels like it flies like its on rails a little, but the controls are very direct, so its a believable flight model! A lot of fun to fly, and doesnt sound like a soggy fart. GA Aircraft Robin DR400 140B This is a good 4 seater general aviation aircraft if you dont want to fork out for things like the Airfoil Labs C172. It has an ok flight model, with the aircraft just over performing a little bit when compared to published climb and cruise data. The 3D model is ok, nothing to really write home about. This is a good little 120 knot cross country aircraft!

A handy "rubber band" feature lets you grab any leg of your flight plan route and move it to accommodate a deviation to your flight plan. The GTN also allows you to enter your most recently visited or nearest airports as waypoints and “Direct To” destinations. Enhanced Integration The GTN can control the simulator audio panel (GTN 750 only) as well as the transponder, with working IDENT and REPLY annunciations. This setup could save you up to 3-inch of panel space versus a typical GNS 430/530 install. In addition, precise course deviation and roll steering outputs can be coupled to the simulator autopilot so that IFR flight procedures may be flown automatically. This includes all ARINC 424 leg types, including NextGen radius-to-fix (RF) legs. Screenshots & Media

    World Flight 2016 - Vatsim

Worldflight Australia is a “virtual” round the world flight to raise money for the Australian Royal Flying Doctor Service. The concept of a virtual, round the world flight for charity was started by a team in the United Kingdom and has spawned an annual event with participants all over the globe. Our very own 'World Flight Australia' was started in 2001 and over the years World Flight Australia teams have raised over $220,000 for the RFDS, helping with the costs of avionics and providing funding for Fly Around Clinics in the essential Air Ambulances used to ferry nurses, doctors and patients around rural Australia. The popularity of conducting a World Flight for charity is growing; over the years teams in Canada, Ireland, Scotland, England, USA and Austria have joined the simulators in Australia. Each team selects their own needy charity, raising funds through donations and corporate sponsorship.
